1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using River, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use River.

2. Service Description

River is an AI-powered inbox service that:

• Receives emails and SMS messages at your personal River address
• Uses AI to classify message content (note, event, task, or mixed)
• Routes messages to your connected tools (Obsidian, Google Calendar, Notion)
• Enhances text formatting and creates wiki-style links
• Sends receipt emails showing what actions were taken

3. Account Registration

To use River, you must:

• Be at least 13 years of age
• Provide accurate and complete registration information
• Maintain the security of your account credentials
• Promptly update your account information if it changes
• Accept responsibility for all activities under your account

You may not share your account credentials or allow others to access your account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password.

4. User Content and Conduct

Your Content

You retain ownership of all content you send through River. By using River, you grant us a limited license to:

• Process and classify your messages using AI
• Route your content to your designated destinations
• Store messages temporarily during processing
• Improve our AI models (anonymized and aggregated data only)

Prohibited Content

You may not use River to send or store:

• Illegal content or content promoting illegal activities
• Content that infringes on intellectual property rights
• Malware, viruses, or malicious code
• Spam or unsolicited commercial messages
• Harassing, abusive, or hateful content
• Content that violates the privacy or rights of others
• False or misleading information intended to deceive

5. Service Availability

We strive to provide reliable service, but we do not guarantee:

• Uninterrupted or error-free access to River
• That messages will always be delivered successfully
• That AI classification will always be accurate
• That the service will meet your specific requirements

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of River at any time, with or without notice.

6. Third-Party Integrations

River integrates with third-party services (Obsidian, Google Calendar, Notion). You are responsible for:

• Complying with the terms of service of integrated platforms
• Maintaining valid credentials for connected services
• Understanding the data sharing implications
• Any issues arising from third-party service failures

We are not responsible for the availability, functionality, or security of third-party services.

7. Fees and Payment

Free Tier

The free tier includes up to 100 emails per month with all core features. We may modify free tier limits with 30 days notice.

Pro Tier

The Pro tier ($7/month) includes:

• Unlimited emails and SMS messages
• Priority AI processing
• Custom routing rules
• Additional integrations

Fees are billed monthly in advance. You may cancel at any time, effective at the end of your current billing period. We do not provide refunds for partial months.

8. Termination

By You

You may terminate your account at any time through your account settings. Upon termination, your data will be deleted within 30 days.

By Us

We may suspend or terminate your account if:

• You violate these Terms of Service
• You use River for prohibited purposes
• Your account shows signs of abuse or suspicious activity
• You fail to pay fees when due (for Pro accounts)
• We are required to do so by law

9. Intellectual Property

River and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by River and are protected by international copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of our service without our express written permission.

10. Disclaimers

RIVER IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Accuracy or reliability of AI classification
• Successful delivery of messages
• Compatibility with third-party services
• Security of transmitted data
• Uninterrupted or error-free operation

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, RIVER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

• Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
• Loss of profits, data, or business opportunities
• Damages arising from use or inability to use the service
• Damages from unauthorized access to your data
• Damages from errors, mistakes, or inaccuracies in AI classification

Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid to River in the 12 months preceding the claim.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless River, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of River or violation of these Terms.

13. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or through a notice in the application. Your continued use of River after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts located in the United States.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

16. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and River regarding your use of the service and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
